What we do – Public and regulatory policy
We work with clients to:
- develop rigorous and sustainable government and regulatory policy that is in the public interest
- influence, understand and respond to government and regulatory policy and policy proposals
- advise companies, including senior directors, and regulators on regulatory regimes and price control reviews
We assist governments and regulators with the development of rigorous and sustainable policy. Public policy is often required to address conflicting interests in an environment of uncertainty and change. Experience teaches us that good intentions are themselves insufficient to make good policy. We draw upon a deep understanding of the issues facing regulated industries and the public sector. This is combined with strong analytical approach to contribute to the development of sound regulation and policy that is in the long term public interest. We have experience of working with both government and regulators to develop and implement economic regulation and public policy.
We assist businesses with influencing, understanding and responding to government and regulatory policy and policy proposals. We consider that a clear understanding of the long term interests of consumers, as well as the needs of businesses, are vital to the development of a durable approach to regulatory and public policy for regulated firms. We work closely with senior management of regulated businesses to appreciate the implications of government and regulatory policy for their current and future positions. We also develop regulatory strategy and influence public policy to maximise long term returns.
Price controls are a feature of regulatory regimes for utilities in many countries and we have extensive knowledge and experience of advising companies including senior directors and regulators on regulatory regimes and price control reviews.
